Service Description
Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection that is usually not serious. While anyone can get it, impetigo is more common in young children. With proper treatment, it often improves within a few days. Pharmacists can provide the same medications as a GP to treat impetigo. They can also offer advice or refer you to other healthcare professionals if needed. See a pharmacist if: You have symptoms of impetigo Your child is aged 12 months or older and has symptoms of impetigo Symptoms of impetigo include: Red sores or blisters (though redness may be less visible on darker skin) Sores or blisters that quickly burst and leave crusty, golden-brown patches Patches that may look like cornflakes stuck to the skin Patches that can grow larger, spread to other areas, be itchy, and sometimes painful Through the Pharmacy First scheme, we can provide treatment for patients aged 1 year and over.
